Niki and Matt’s dream wedding like so many 2020 weddings had to be put on hold. They decided to officially tie the knot last year on their original wedding date in front of a few family members and friends at Niki’s parent’s house. While they saved their “Big Fat Greek Wedding” celebration for 2021 at the Hyatt in Rochester and it was nothing short of spectacular.
Niki and Matt got ready at separate houses before their traditional Greek ceremony at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. The ceremony had many traditions including the placing of white crowns on top of the bride and groom’s head. The Koumbaros, or wedding sponsor, then intertwined the crowns three times to symbolize the couple’s union. After the ceremony we then headed to Sunken Gardens for pictures with the bridal party before heading to the Hyatt. Niki and Matt were most looking forward to finally celebrating with all of their friends and family. They chose the Hyatt because it was able to comfortably fit all of their guests, and they loved its high ceilings and gorgeous chandeliers. The flowers and centerpieces by Kittlebergers along with the white and gold décor made the ballroom look exquisite. My favorite part of the night was “The Bread Dance” as family members held the special bread called a koluk high in the air as guests encircled the couple on the dance floor. DJ ET and The Nikos Koutros Band were amazing and had everybody dancing the whole night.
